Bhutan Traditional Tournament

With approval and support from IAA, Bhutan Indigenous Games and Sports Association is pleased announce the organization of the IAA-Bhutan International Traditional Archery Tournament to be held at the

 historic and beautiful valley of Paro from 11-14 November 2019.

The tournament will be organized according to the rules of the historical HDH-IAA, and is open to all archers as no qualification is required.
In this connection, I have the great pleasure in extending a kind invitation to all archers from across the world to register for the above special tournament, so that you can not only enjoy the archery since “Archery is Bhutan’s National Sport” but also experience the beauty and the specialty of the land of Gross National Happiness.

COMPETITION

 

There shall be 4 different types of competition.

The first part of the competition shall be in HDH-IAA Historical Rules under which the archers shoot in the qualification round on 3 different ranges each with 12 targets (12 classic target faces, 12 hunting targets-Bhutanized 3D targets, and 12 technical targets. After qualification best archers decide on the ranking in the finals.

In short, the competition format shall be organized in line with HDH-IAA historical rules followed at the 2nd Historical Archery World Championships in Gyula last year.

The second part of the competition shall be International HDH-IAA Historical FlightShooting and Long Distance Target Shooting. The same format and rules as done atthe 2nd Historical Archery World Championships in Gyula last year shall be followed.

The third part of the competition shall be Bhutanese style archery TeamCompetition where foreign visiting teams shall play a 7-round match on the 140-meter Bhutanese archery range.

The fourth part of the competition shall be a Team Competition for Bhutanese archers in the traditional style but with a shorter version to fit within the tournamentduration. This will be more of a side event to demonstrate traditional Bhutanese archery complete with singing, dancing, and merry-making in addition to the seriouscompetition.

BOW CATEGORIES

All types or categories of bows allowed by HDH-IAA shall be allowed for the competition.

AGE of ARCHERS

There will be no age or gender bar, and age groups shall be followed as per HDH-IAA rules, but some modification if necessary upon confirmation of number of participants after expiry of the date of registration of archers may be considered.

Sunday, 10. November 2019.

Arrival at Paro International Airport: To be received by BIGSA officials, and brought to respective hotels: Those who arrive early can practice at the competition venue
Practice available in Parro City

Monday, 11. November 2019.

09:00-09:30: Opening ceremony: Will include Bhutanese cultural performances such as Mask and Folk Dances
09:30-13:30: Demonstration: Bhutanese style team competition
13:30-14:30: Lunch break
14:30-16:30: Bhutanese – Foreigners Team Competition

              Note: Participants are expected to bring a national flag of their country andtheir organization/club flags

Tuesday, 12. November 2019.

09:00-09:30: Orientation
09:30-13:30: HDH-IAA qualifications – 12 targets
13:30-14:30: Lunch break
14:30-16:30: HDH-IAA qualifications– 12 targets

Wednesday, 13. November 2019.

09:00-09:30: Orientation
09:30-13:30: HDH-IAA qualifications – 12 targets
13:30-14:30: Lunch break
14:30-17:30: HDH-IAA Finals

Thursday, 14. November 2019.

09:00-09:30: Orientation
09:30-13:30: HDH-IAA Long distance, Flight shooting
13:30-14:30: Lunch break
14:30-17:30: HDH-IAA Long distance, Flight shooting

18:00-19:00: Closing ceremony with award of trophies, medals and certificates
19:30: Closing gala dinner with culture programme hosted by BIGSA/BOC

Friday, 15.November 2019.

1. For those returning home, transportation to the airport and send off will be organized
2. For those who wish to extend their stay for excursion, assistance will be extended in organization of travel and other facilities but to be paid for by individuals concerned.

 


 

Now, coming to the individual archers/athletes participating at the event, BIGSA with support from BOC would extend the following courtesies:

1. Bhutanese visa fee exemption upon approval by the Royal Government of Bhutan,
2. Special lane for arrival and departure at Paro airport,
3. Free local transportation,
4. 1 liaison officer for each team/ country,
5. 30% discount on Druk Air flights for all archers, 50% discount for SAARC countries

So, the archers will have to bear the following costs:
1. A registration fee of USD 110 each, 50% discount for SAARC countries
2. Cost of accommodation and meals in designated hotels for USD 60 per head per day. 
3. VISA – 40 USD (SAARC countries dont need VISA)

Deadline for registration: 30.09.2019.

The registration will be final if the transfer is received and the competitor has a valid VISA.

REMARKS

 

1. SOME MODIFICATIONS TO THE FORMAT OF COMPETITION AND PROGRAM MAY BE NECESSARY TO SUIT THE LOCAL CONDITIONS WHICH WILL BE NOTIFIED AS SOON ASPOSSIBLE.

2. A detailed brochure on the tournament with day-to-day and hour-to-hour programme will be prepared and made available.

3. There will be exhibition on archery and handicrafts sales counters on the main venue of the competitions.
Participants from different countries may like to bring their equipment for exhibition, and they can also demonstrate their bow and arrow making.
